Opinions

Opinions

I think company  leaders should have an opinion about everything in the business - preferably a strong opinion - albeit loosely held.

You should be vocal about your opinions, but let people know you are very open to replacing them, anytime, with better ones.

Having opinions on the big stuff is easier because you get pushed around by your stakeholders on big stuff all time - so these things are almost constantly in view.

Often times, when you get blindsided, it’s  from areas of the business where you didn’t have a real opinion (a hiring practice, the decision process for using a new open source tool, how often you do email blasts etc.)

Even an imperfect opinion is better than none.  It means people around you will (and should) engage it. Otherwise,  the void you leave tends to remain a grey area in the company; often without you knowing it.

It’s critical to inject an opinion into everything - even it’s it’s simply to ensure people around you fight you to make it better.
